Soybean is another key focus for Origin's GMO commercialization roadmap. China is a major soybean importing country. The projected 2021 demand crosses 100 million mt for the first time. With China accounting for over 60% of global soybean trade, Chinese government is turning to domestic suppliers in supporting the ongoing demand needs.
GMO soybeans are in high demand in countries such as the United States. More than 90% of soybeans in the U.S. are bioengineered.
The known benefits of GMO soybeans is its herbicide-resistant genes, enabling farmers to use herbicides without damaging the soybean plant itself, resulting in a much higher yield and less waste during the seeding process.
